Castle Rock, Colorado mom Kelli Murphy was sentenced to two life terms after being charged with the murders of her nine-year-old Liam and six-year-old Madigan, the Examiner reports.
Kelli was reportedly involved in a nasty custody battle with her husband Eric and smothered the two children with pillows to prevent losing the case. The two were supposedly due for a court hearing the day of the murder.
She was considered after her lawyers unsuccessfully argued that she had ingested sleeping pills and vodka, especially after toxicology reports turned up nothing. It took the jury a little over an hour to deliver the verdict.
Eric’s family released a statement upon learning Kelli’s sentence. “This is a sad day for us. We would have preferred celebrating Liam’s 11th birthday today. Instead, we would just like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone involved in this case. Although nothing can make up for the loss of Liam and Madigan or fill the void that is left by their absence, we are thankful that this chapter is now over and we look to God to help lighten our hearts.”
Common sense is indeed not common.
