Security forces in Kano, northwest Nigeria have renewed raid on hideouts of terrorists recording 28 arrests within the weekend.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim K. Idris told P.M.NEWS on Sunday that the Joint Task Force and the Police Anti-Terrorism Squad carried out two successful raids at the secret cells of Islamic militants on Saturday.

He said fully armed security team stormed Yankaba axis and Dantishe Quarters in Dala, all within Kano metropolis where 18 suspected terrorists were arrested with their weapons of destruction.

The Police boss hinted that among the 12 suspects arrested at Yankaba, were the suspected killers of two teenagers last Thursday who fell by the bullets of terrorists on a Motorbike at the Anambra Line of Yankaba Quarters.

Idris said all security formations in Kano are on red alert, “and we are determined to flush these miscreants out of Kano. If you look at our response, you will understand that we have re-strategized and we are not taking chances.”

According to Idris, in the last one month, over 200 suspected terrorists have been arrested in Kano, “and our approach has greatly curbed their antic. The security agencies in Kano are taking into full considerations, the feelings of residents.

“Through useful information, we have been clamping down on their hideouts. In areas consider as flashpoints, we engage in house-to-house search for the hoodlums; and we are doing this without disturbing the peace of decent citizens.”

He urged Kano residents to be committed in providing information to security agencies, adding that it is in the interest of everyone to ensure peace and order are maintained in Kano.

“I also want to use this opportunity to appeal to religious leaders, traditional rulers and community leaders to play their roles in ensuring that matters relating to security in the state are not blown out of proportion. It is also important for the general public to be security conscious. Always be at the right place at the right time. Residents should not panic, the JTF and the police are determined to protect lives and property in the state,” Idris stated.

P.M. NEWS also learnt from a JTF source that the 12 terrorists arrested in Yankaba just arrived Kano from Neighbouring Yobe and Borno states few days ago.

At Rijiyar Zarki, near Bayero University, Kano, BUK, old site, 10 terrorists were also arrested during a dawn raid.

“We are not taking chances. Even as I am talking to you now, we have concluded arrangements to smash a number of their hideouts. Kano is too hot for them. The best option for them is to leave the state,” a JTF operative told P.M.NEWS.
