Well, even lawyers can be repulsed by certain crimes! Lawyers in India are refusing to represent the suspects arrested in connection with the cruel gang-molestation and murder of a medical student in India last December. The group of Indian men accused of gang r.a.p.i.n.g the 23-year-old woman were arraigned yesterday without representation. The lawyers said they are abstaining to give the case a speedy trial. (Finally some forthright learned friends admit lawyers complicate cases). They said it would be immoral to represent the monsters.
The question is: Can Nigerian lawyers do this? Will their greed for the money to be made allow them?

WRONG MOVE BY THE LAWYERS. IT WILL ONLY COMPLICATE THE CASE. IF THE GOVT IS SEEKING THE DEATH PENALTY(as they have indicated), THE ACCUSED MUST HAVE LEGAL REPRESENTATION. the lawyers are not repulsed by the crime, they are only fearing for their own lives

Lawyers saying it would be immoral to defend the culprits are not being professional. Its like a doctor who says he won't treat an injured criminal. The state would charge and accuse the culprits according to the law, and punish them according to the law, if found guilty. The lawyers' duty is to ensure that the law is applied accordingly and correctly. And when it is, then they can sleep without guilt, the state would charge and accuse the culprits according to the law and punish .them whatever the outcome of the case They say its immoral because they can't say they are afraid.

Hmmmmn! I'm wondering: will a Nigerian lawyer feel afraid enough to turn down a brief? Even if it is only N10,000 to be made, I suspect a Naija lawyer will still show face and damn the consequences
