Kidnap kingpin shot dead in Imo

A kidnap kingpin and a notorious armed robber, Uche Mathew Alaribe, alias Nze who was allegedly responsible for several robberies and kidnappings in Imo State was shot dead, yesterday.


Parading the suspects yesterday at the Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Katsina said Alaribe was arrested at Mechanic Village Nekede, Owerri West Local Council Area, while planning for another robbery operation with one Emeka Opara and three others suspected to be members of his gang.


The police boss explained that Alaribe on sighting the police, took to his heels and was shot in the leg and Emeka was arrested while others escaped. According to him, the gang was responsible for the killing of Uchenna Emmanuel Alaribe, Achumba Samuel, Cowbell manager's wife, a Deeper Life pastor among other notable citizens of the state. T


he police also paraded a suspected rapist, Onyebuchi (surname withheld) from Omuma Umuezeala in Oru East Local Council Area who raped a four-year-old girl, Chinasa Dickson to death. According to the police, the suspected rapist abducted the little girl while on her way to school through a bush path and carried her to his farm where he allegedly raped her to death.


The suspect was said to have tried to cover the heinous crime by attempting to bury his victim in a pit before the police detectives arrested him. Also two suspected kidnappers of a 75-year-old man, Dominic Ibemesi of Nneni in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State were arrested at Port Harcourt where they had gone to withdraw part of the N15 million ransom paid by the police in a bank.


The suspects, Ogechi Onwuka from Obowo in Imo State and Ihohi Charles Illa from Delta State, abducted their victim on gunpoint on his way from his farm at Umuchia Umuapu in Ohaji Local Government Area of Imo State. The police commissioner warned members of the public not to shield criminals, as anybody caught would be treated as an accomplice adding that "everybody is equal before the law.


Those who decide to take negative side of life should desist, otherwise the long arm of the law will catch up with them." He also revealed that a new Ambush Squad had been set up by his command to cobweb the entire state for those involved in any type of criminal activity in the state.
