The Ijaw communities, in a statement signed and issued to journalists in Benin City by their leaders, including Elder Philip Mabiri and Reverend Roman Ejemi, expressed concern that they now constituted an object of mockery in the political process and structures in Edo State because of their non-representation in the proposed cabinet and other top political offices.
The statement read that "the Ijaws view this act with disdain because Governor Oshiomole has not been able to fulfil his promises to the people who massively voted for him during the last governorship election.
"We are Edo citizens and have worked meritoriously enough to deserve representation. A situation whereby Ijaw people in Edo State are being denied key political offices is not acceptable to us.
The Ijaw leaders said Oshiomhole had promised them commissionership positions and key political appointments during the visit of Alhaji Asari Dokubo to him at the government house, adding that it was unfortunate that the promises were yet to be fulfilled.
