Thats really funny, well wiki never said anything about him being a Nigerian. Just because he bears an african name does not make him one..I've seen so many ppl with african names but with no connections to africa or whatsoever..infact this is what i found out:

His father, Olu Dara was a jazz trumpeter (born in Louisville, Mississippi) and his mother Fannie Ann Jones was a Postal Service worker.

His father was born in mississippi and Nas in U.S..he chose to give his kids african names..

ummm nothing cuz i'm right!..lol..we tend to get fooled when we see an african name, so we automatically think the person is african, when its just a name simply derived from an african background...

No, it means he's an American whose father chose Olu Dara as his name.

that was his dad's birth name, he changed it to olu dara...but this might help.

Nasir Jones, better known as the rapper Nas has gone by a number of aliases over the years. So while Nas might be Nasty, Esco, Escobar, Nastradamus, The Streets Disciple, or God’s Son, one thing he is most definitely not, is Naija!

Some of you may be left wondering what this is all about, but among many Nigerians, there is this idea that Nas is Nigerian.

As my guy hemebob (awoof chopper #1) said earlier this week:

Kai… Nigerians sabi claim eh. Na so dem talk say NAS na naija boy sef.

My guess is that this originates from the fact that his father, the popular jazz & blues singer/musician, Olu Dara, has a Yoruba-sounding name – a name he took later in life. (Being a big fan of Olu Dara, I never for one minute thought he was Nigerian… but indeed Nigerians come in all forms.) So, upon further inspection, Olu Dara, was born Charles Jones III in Louisville, Mississippi in 1941 and later married Ann Jones, also American.

He is not a Nigerian. I have met people with names like , Ijeoma and Ola with no connections to naija. Their parents looked up african names and gave  them to their kids because they like the way it sounds and the meanings, but it doesn't  mean they're Nigerians. Just like when lil wayne made the millie video, buzz started going around that he is Nigerian.
