Meanwhile, Governor Adams Oshiomohle, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Matters-Diaspora, Mr Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has called on the federal government to urgently stop this “madness” by seeking for the immediate deportation of the victims.
It would be recalled that the victims were arrested three months ago while on their way to Europe via Libya without genuine documents.
Vanguard learnt that there were about 3,000 Nigerians involved in the act, while majority of them are from Edo state.
It was also learnt that six of the ladies have also been impregnated by Libyan security operatives. One of the victims, who identified him self as Charles Erawuyi, told Vanguard last week that the security operatives always come at night to have marathon sex with the ladies.
Erawuyi, who confirmed the jail-brake to Vanguard on telephone weekend, said they decided to destroy the doors of the prison after they disarmed the warders and other security operatives around “because we have been suffering and starving.
These people do not care about our feeding; we hardly drink water, yet every night they come there to beat us up and rape the girls.
“Majority of our people are in the desert now while some have died as a result of the shooting. They started shooting at us but majority of us managed to escape. I do not know the exact number that died, but I know that at least five people would have died when they were pursuing us.
“I heard they have re-arrested some people too. Our government should do some thing immediately before all of us will die here. You can imagine how hot the desert is; people will just be dying.”
Reacting, Mr Agbonayinma explained that Governor Oshiomohle had earlier informed the Minister of External Affairs about the matter, but regretted that nothing yet had been done to find solution to the problem.
According to him, “the Comrade governor was just informed about the matter last Friday evening and he immediately informed the federal government because he is somebody that hates seeing his people suffer.
“But I will inform him about this latest development and I know he may be pushed to visit there himself."
But we are still appealing to the federal government because this is a national issue, the federal government has to start the process.
“But I want to appeal to the relations of the victims to be calm, as the Comrade governor will do all he could to ensure that our indigenes are brought back home. But we want to also appeal to our people to ensure that they have genuine documents before embarking on any journey.
“We have a governor that cares about the masses and he is doing every thing possible to provide jobs for our youths. So we should look out for the opportunities available and make good use of it than going to die in another man’s land.”
