The Ebonyi State Police Command yesterday said it has arrested five robbery suspects who have been allegedly terrorising travellers along the Afikpo-Abakaliki express road. The suspects are also believed to be involved in other robbery incidents that occurred in the different parts of the state within the month of July, 2013.
In a statement, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sylvester Igbo, gave the names of the suspects as Chukwuma Nworie of Ishinkwo community, Onicha local government area, Sunday Paul of the same community, Desmond Ogbonna, Ndubuisi Umeh and Amobi Nweke.
The PPRO stated that on July 9 and 14, Chukwu Nworie and Sunday Paul robbed their victims along the Abakaliki-Afikpo road, adding that the incident prompted the police to alert all vigilante men in the area to be on a lookout for the robbery suspects.
According to him, acting on a tip-off, operatives of the command swung into action and trailed some of the suspects to their hideout and arrested two of them pointing out that on interrogation, both confessed to the crime.
