Owerri – Imo State Police Command has spread its dragnet to apprehend a middle aged man, Nnamdi Amadi, from Amauzari, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, for allegedly setting his pregnant wife, Chibuzor, on fire.
Vanguard gathered that the late 25-year old Chibuzor, from Amaraku,graduated from Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, while her husband, Amadi, alias Ite Ego, is a motor mechanic.
Narrating what happened to newsmen, the father of the deceased, Mr. Samuel Obioha, said her daughter told him from her sick bed before she died, that her problem started when she answered a call meant for her husband.
“She also told me that when her husband noticed her reaction because the call came from his girl friend, he took offence and both of them exchanged bitter words ”, Mr. Obioha said.
According to him, Amadi brought out a bottle of petrol, emptied it on her, set her ablaze, jumped out of the room and locked her inside.
It was also gathered that when Amadi saw the flames of fire coming from the room, he unlocked the door and his pregnant wife ran out, cried for help, adding that she was already burnt beyond redemption before the door was opened.
He said wat pained him the most, was that when sympathetic neighbours were making frantic effort to save Chibuzor’s life, her husband allegedly refused to release his car key, which would have been used to convey her to the hospital.
As at press time, the state police command has not arrested the fleeing Amadi, though the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, an ASP was not around to confirm the story when Vanguard visi
