Sadiq you have spoken, haters can call it whatever they like, because the truth is better, jealous ones would continue to envy, but records dont lie, only an illetrate will critisize the regime of late abacha, because his record speaks for itsel, ur da true son of your father, may his soul rest in perfect peace .

Sadiq, that is a good one. Wole Soyinka have nothing to offer this country rather than criticizing past leaders and even the dead not spared. Wole Soyinka is a disgrace to Nigeria.

How can you move forward when a sadist is being glorified?

Your elders are not pointing fingers all they are saying is not to glorify the atrocities of Abacha and other dictators.
No one can forget the past but one should not dwell in the past. The past will and should always be remembered to guide the present and the future.
If Abacha was not honoured by this current regime in this so called charade of non-entities (Jamboree) we all will not be engaged in this discussion.

If Adolf Hitler is being honoured similarly the Jews of the world will be mad as hell.
We also cannot forget the atrocities of others attending this fan-fare.
It is even better to let the youths of today be aware of the history. .

Pls Papadip I have right to my opinion. Its a free world right? We don't have to agree on d same opinion. Thanks

Picture yourself as one of the victims of Abacha’s regime or any of your relatives. Would you even be saying this?
What are we celebrating ? You are celebrating...100 years of corruption; insecurity; lawlessness; terror; fuel scarcity; religious, economic political or ethnic crisis; poor education and electricity; bad roads as said by you..

You've said it all papadip, it's only in Nigeria that thieves and murderous psychopaths are glorified, No doubt, those who are out here singing Abacha's praises were his lackeys or those who benefited directly or indirectly from his regime of terror and corruption.

What baffles me,  is how some Nigerians have chosen to forget in a hurry the countless atrocities committed by this man, Abacha's regime saw an unforeseen level of state repression and violence, previously unparalleled manipulation of the media to control the masses, Unprecedented looting of public funds, the list is endless,
Abacha's regime should serve as a warning beacon of how a modern state, cultured society can so rapidly sink into barbarity. !!!

The guy might be right about focusing on the future and letting the past go, but Sir Wole is also right about disapproving the promotion of murderers dead or alive. This guy is just trying to get our parental emotions ,not that there is anything wrong in doing that, but they are both referring to two different things. Awarding Abacha is like a motivation for others like him that it is okay to kill and hijack the country's freedom and still be awarded for it.

i dont do politics but i know one thing, No ONE IS PERFECT. Each of us have our own wrong turns in life so why do we love dragging other peoples dirty linens outside? Like Jesus Said" he who knows he has no sin should cast the first stone". Wole Soyinka wasnt right and The late Abacha's son only did what we all would have done if it were our dads. Seriously stop casting stones and laying blame on anyone... Abacha may have not been in his best during his time but what about the ones before him and after him? What about our present leaders? Are the really doing what is right? N wait a minute, whats with all this awards? wats with all this unneccessary celebration? What are we really proud of that we think awards should be given? Please lets just think of a way to right our wrongs in order to bring this country into the great level it is meant for.
Peace

U did not actually understand what is going on here, Wole Shoyinka is not blaming Abacha, but the Foolish man we have as President, who is honoring a murderer like himself it whom the man is blaming, Abacha's children does not have anything to say, they shpould just keep quiet, Thank God Wole Shoyinka's books have impact in their lives, but unfurtunately for them, their father does not have any positive impact in Nigeria youth. The step taking by Jonathan gives hope to the youth (Murdere) that they will be celebrated after their death. TOO BAD. WHICH WAY NIGERIA.

i undastand very bit of this my broda. All am sayin is dat so many people who failed this country are still. The centenary award were also given to Buhari, am sure IBB dey there. This guyz are still being celebrated. In my own opinion, i can neva include Abacha, Buhari, not even IBB. Buh for d fact dat our president is too dumb, usin all meaningless antics to seek d northerners vote in 2015. He realise most of d northerners like d guyz. Come to Kano you'll undastand wot am sayin. I guy pushin truck, 'll have the picture of Abacha on his truck and so many of dem. Am not dignifyin Abacha, i dislike rite from on set. Buh d main question to ask ourselves, tradin blames or accusin someone, is dat d way out. A very sure NO. What is the hope for a common Nigeria thinkin sensibly.

Sincerely speaking, repeated mud slinging at the federal govt makes no sense to me. Has Soyinka ever come out to contest any elective position in this country to at least teach us how to be a leader? Its always very easy to stay on the sideline and be talking. I beggi

How do u define mudslinging ??
If you haven't  please go through the work of the Nobel Laureate  titled  "The Man  Died "

Go through and reflect on it - then see how it relates to your statement here .

You are a living dead if you keep quiet in the face of tyranny .    that is the summary

Soyinka and people like Fela and Gani Fawehinmi . Chinua Achebe and a host of others .chose to be a voice for others who have no voices . !  and someone  is referring to that as mudslinging ??   Abeggi !

Abacha did no wrong? African system is corrupt by nature? What planet do you live on. These statements shows chronic ignorance at best. Even his son said "my father's regime was not perfect". So for any Nigerian to say Abacha did no wrong, is either the height of stupidity or an indication of chronic denial. Germans never said Hitler did no wrong.
