From what credible sources in Abuja told us, there is a grand plot to make somebody very close to President Goodluck Jonathan the new Inspector General of police for the purpose of 2015 election. The said police officer have enjoyed accelerated promotion to the position of DIG within the last five years.

To achieve this agenda, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, is has been directed to proceed on terminal leave any moment from now.
Findings indicated that the replacement for Abubakar who became the acting IG on January 25, 2012, might be announced early next month by the government.
Powerful forces in the Presidency has blocked moves to extend the tenure of the IG Abubakar who has largely restored confidence in the force and has the capacity to manage 2015.
According to Punch, Abubakar from Zamfara State enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on July 30, 1979 and is due for retirement on July 30, 2014, based on the mandatory retirement age.

It is believed that an acting IG would be picked from the ranks of the Deputy Inspectors General of Police and that man close to the President, which I mentioned earlier is likely going to be picked ahead of his seniors.
There was hope that Abubakar’s tenure might be extended till after the 2015 general elections, having impressed the people of Nigeria with some innovations and policies he introduced into the NPF.

Among other things, the police boss successfully stopped police checkpoints on the highway through which some bad eggs in the police force use to extort motorists and other road users.
