The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the sentencing of two notorious drug kingpins, Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian and Agbo Chidike Prince, to life imprisonment. This decision concludes their extensive involvement in cocaine trafficking spanning continents.
Uwaezuoke's journey to a lifetime behind bars began with his arrest on March 19, 2022, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. Found in possession of 100 large wraps of cocaine weighing 2.243 kilograms, he was subsequently arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Despite being granted bail, Uwaezuoke absconded, leading to the revocation of his bail and an arrest warrant issued against him.
NDLEA operatives rearrested Uwaezuoke on August 1, 2023, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. He was attempting to export 1.822 kilograms of cocaine to India using a different passport and identity. Rearraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos, Uwaezuoke pleaded guilty to charges and was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment or a fine of ₦1,500,000.00.
Transferred to Abuja to face another importation case, Uwaezuoke pleaded guilty once more before Justice Joyce Obehi Abdulmalik. Despite his plea, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment, citing his lack of remorse and repeat offences.
In the case of Agbo Chidike Prince, he was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on October 21, 2023. Found with 49 wraps of cocaine weighing 998.73 grams, he pleaded guilty to the charges before Justice Joyce Obehi Abdulmalik. Despite pleas from his counsel, Prince was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on April 15, 2024, due to the seriousness of the offence and the commercial quantity of the drug.
