A Delta State High Court, sitting in Warri, has sentenced the Chief Security Officer, CSO, of Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, Peter Obonyamo, to 33 years imprisonment.
The sentence followed Obonyamo’s conviction by the court for corruptionrelated offences.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, had sued Obonyamo to court for demanding N150,000 gratification from a contractor with the polytechnic.
He was also charged with receiving N100,000 from the contractor.
His arrest came through a sting operation by ICPC operatives, as he was collecting the N100,000 marked money.
Delivering judgement, Justice Briki-Okolosi held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt in counts 1, 3, 4, 6 and 11 of the charge, while he struck out counts 2 and 5 for duplicity.
The court further held that counts 8, 9 and 10 were not proven beyond reasonable doubts.
However, the court sentenced Obonyamo to seven years imprisonment on each of counts 1, 3, 4 and 6, with an option of N20,000 fine on each count.
The court also sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment without an option of fine on count 11.
Obonyamo was, therefore, sentenced to a total of 33 years imprisonment, but would only spend seven years in prison, as the terms are to run concurrently.

So what is d law doing about those policemen on d road dt even kill for d bribe at times. Not to talk of our politicians dt v several accounts abroad. Even d so called justices sef dm own worst... All is vanity anyways, just 6ft no matter what u steal or v in bank and u r surely not taking any to heaven or hell whichever d case may be.

Wrong sentencing, i suggest any criminal and rapist convicted should be sent to Sambisa forest to search for the missing Girls with immediate effect without options

You see !!!! Those who STOLE of BILLONS were sentence to 6 months but those who REQUEST for Bribe / gratification of N150,000 got 33 years, maybe they did not bribe the Court/ICPC , BODE , IBRU and others are as free as saints

nigeria has no jurisdiction atall because the man has no mony to bribe as the mony is so smaall for the judge to share from so the useless judge jusst vex and jailed him for a hole 33 yrs if we have such hash jurisdition why people like obasnjo babangida sanusi atiku 90 % of nigeria politicias including those who kill , those who sponsore boko haram etc are there untouched people are even pleading for annesty for boko haram members in police custody pls pls mr president should interven in this injustice in as much as i hate bribry but also i hate intimidation man inhumanity to man , oppresion and aggresion against the poor at most it shouldn't be more than 3 to 5 yrs to serve as a deterent and not oppresion
