A Nigerian private college student was sentenced to death by the High Court here today, after he was found guilty of trafficking 26.533 kilogrammes of Canabis, four years ago.
Judge Amelia Tee Hong Geok Abdullah held that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case against Uchechukwu Nelson Ohaechesi, 37.
In her judgement, Amelia said the accused was careful to deny that he was carrying the bag which contained the dangerous drugs.
“The court finds that the accused is not a witness of truth. As such the court is of the considered view that the accused’s defence is but an afterthought, a pure fabrication and untrue.
“The court therefore sentences the accused to death. And vide section 183 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused is to be hanged by the neck until he is dead,” she said.
Ohaechesi committed the offence beside an overhead bridge staircase at Taman Connought Highway toward Kajang, Cheras here at 7.45pm on Oct 17, 2010.
He was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor P.Viknesvaran, while lawyer Ramzani Idris appeared for the accused.

Seriously, GEJ needs to step down...I don't see any positive effect in the country since the beginning of his rule. The thing is that he doesn't take any matter serious both local and international...I read a report this morning about how some Nigerian business were closed down in Ghana by the police due to the inability of those Nigerians paying $300,000 for a small business and as well threatening them to leave the country even with the Ghanaian government saying that the law doesn't apply to all countries which includes Nigeria. This is something that doesn't happen in Nigeria no matter how bad the country is. To solve this issue, I believe the law should be revisited and be made strict to protect Nigerians home and abroad. In South Africa and India, a Nigerian is killed almost every week and yet the government does nothing about it and this people come into Nigeria, kill our people and still nothing is done most especially Indians.. I guess GEJ doesn't either use the internet or watch news about the latest happening about Nigerians in and out of the country...I believe every news he hears is always a phone call.
In this case of this stupid student caught for drug trafficking...To be honest with you, he deserves it...it should serve as a lesson to other Nigerians because if GEJ should seek the release of this student, many more will be carrying drug with hope the GEJ will bail them out. #LongLiveNigeria

As a nigerian,i am ashamed at the way some of our citizens are shaming our name abroad all in the quest to hammer....This guy not only deserves it ,he is also stupid..if you are in a country were the mandatory sentence for drug trafficking is the death sentence, why would you still get involved in something like that ,unless you have a death wish....if he had succeed ,he would have been oppressing peoople in lagos with that money,,walking around like he is god
