 An alarmed cat gets its claws out as it comes face-to-face with its own reflection in a comical home video.
Footage shows the confused feline catching a glimpse of itself in a long floor mirror before springing up on its back legs.

High-pitched sounds can be heard as the tabby continues to paw away at the shiny surface.
 
It keeps going for around 40 seconds before being distracted by a shelf nearby.
The video of the cat 'attacking' the mirror has been watched more than 18,700 times since it was uploaded online by YouTube user, PerasonMike.

The proud pet owner says his cat performs the same stunt every time he brings the mirror out.

One viewer commented after watching the pet in action: 'My cat refuses to look in any mirror, she evades looking at it in any way possible.'
And another humorously imagined the animal's thoughts, writing: 'Let me through please, I would like to play with the handsome gentleman on the other side!'
It is not known where the footage was captured.
