A woman in Wales survived a four-year battle with cancer only to be killed in a horseback riding accident.
Geraldine Jones, 51, was diagnosed with chest cancer in 2010, according to the South Wales Evening Post. She underwent four years of chemotherapy before recently beating the disease.
While ill, she had made a “list of things to do before you die,” which included riding a horse on Llangennith Beach in Gower, South Wales, the Telegraph reports.
Jones, an experienced horseback rider, went out for that ride on July 27, but sustained head injuries after falling from the horse, despite wearing a helmet. Her riding companion and a passing jogger rushed to her aid, but she died while being airlifted to a hospital, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Jones was a director of communications at St. Michael’s Hospice in Hereford until last year, when she left to pursue a career as a freelance PR consultant.
“Geraldine was extremely vibrant,” a colleague told the Birmingham Mail. “She was colorful and bright.”
Nicky West, chief executive of St Michael’s Hospice told the Telegraph that Jones had wanted to ride a horse along Llangennith Beach for years.
“She loved that part of the coast and doing that ride was something she had always wanted to do,” West said. “It was a life-long wish and she was really excited about it.”
She was married and left behind two sons, ages 12 and 16.
Police do not suspect foul play, according to the BBC.
