The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State is set to confront the All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s governorship election as all aggrieved members of the party have resolved to walk together.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos yesterday, Vice President Namadi Sambo said all the aspirants in the recent PDP gubernatorial primary in the state had agreed to work together.
The outcome of the PDP primary was trailed by controversy. The runner up, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro had to file a suit in a Federal High Court, Abuja praying to compel the PDP to cancel the primary won by Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on alleged irregularity.
Sambo told the gathering, which was attended by former Anambra State govenor and PDP bigwigs within the state that “ the Lagos State PDP and indeed Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Chief Deji Doherty, Ambassador Tokunbo Kamson and Mr. Babatunde Gbadamosi, who were our governorship aspirants had agreed to team up and work to win Lagos this time around in 2015.
“Mr. Jimi Agbaje, our governorship candidate has signified interest all along to work with our party members to deliver Lagos State. He is indeed humble to know the enormity of the task in delivering Lagos State and therefore, appeals for total support by putting all hands on the deck to realise the challenge that lies ahead of us that Agbaje had signified interest to work with everyone to deliver Lagos.”
According to the vice president, with the reconciliation, the party is poised to win Lagos State.
He said: “Our party has the total advantage of winning Lagos as the state has yearned for too long for a change.
“We are poised more than ever before to rescue Lagos. The time for PDP to take over Lagos has come. PDP is confident that it would win Lagos and other elective positions in 2015.”
Sambo, who stated that Agbaje, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in next year’s election would not let the party down, noted that there would be realistic development in Lagos State with a PDP controlled government.
“Today, people are leaving Lagos because of heavy taxation. A PDP government will correct it. Jimi is coming to save Lagos.
“What we have done today is worth emulating by other party members in Lagos and beyond,” he added.
On his part, Obanikoro stated that despite the inadequacies in the primaries, they had all agreed that Agbaje was the governorship candidate.
His words: “There is no doubt that my passion and love for Lagos is known. It will trigger any level of sacrifice to ensure victory for the PDP.
Responding, Agbaje expressed delight that through the intervention of the Presidency, Lagos PDP has become one big happy family.
“All animosities are declared dead and that is why I sang the song, everything is turning around. By God’s grace in 2015, PDP will record resounding victory in Lagos State.
