Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Nigeria President Umaru Yar’Adua appointed Aloysius Katsina-Alu chief justice of the west African country, ThisDay reported, citing a letter to Parliament from the president.
Katisna-Alu will replace Idris Kutigi who retires in December after reaching the age of 70, the Lagos-based newspaper said.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate, the upper chamber of parliament, ThisDay added.

The outgoing CJN, Hon Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi was a nupe man from Niger State, the nominee is Tiv from benue State. Also, in Nigeria, the appointment has strictly been based on seniority on the supreme court bench. Neither Kutigi nor Katsina-Alu are hausa, so current criticism is baseless. Nigerians should learn to think well, hard and have eye for the facts as the country belongs to all whether hausa or not.
