Apparently in reaction to allegation leveled against Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential flag-bearer of opposition All Progressives Congress, APC; that he truncated democracy, by overthrowing former President Shehu Shagari’s democratic government in 1983 and he want to be elected under the same democracy he truncated 32 years ago, Shagari was quoted to have reacted thus;
“Buhari did not overthrow my government, its was when those boys that overthrew our government were looking for someone with integrity, honesty and fairness to be the head of their government that was when Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s name came in”
“It was Gen D.Y Bali that mentioned his name, and all of them agreed, Gen Tunde Idiagbon was asked to announce his name when he “Buhari” was not even there, I thought he was in India for a course”
Shagari explained that those who overthrew his government were, Major General Tunde Idiagbon, major general Ibrahim Babangida, major general Tunde Ogbeha, Air-commondor Augustus Aikhomu, Nureni Yusuf, Bridgadier General Sanni Abacha, DY Bali,Lt Col Oladayo Popoola.

Yes...Late General Tunde Idiagbon Overthrow Shagari Government...He lead the Coup... and when they are Looking for Some to became the head of State..Buhari Name was mention,because of his sincerity... but is a pity most pupils in this Forum did not know this!! they where not even born then!!! and why they overthrow Shagari was because of too much corruption under his government as at then!!! and Buhari was bring in as head of state..to stop the corruptions.. @ Gold777.... Shagari has said it severally before. Maybe you are too young, but I recall he said it 3 times during Babangida erra (2 times when Buhari was thrown in jail by IBB, and once when he was released), and people acused him of supporting Buhari to retaliate against IBB who overthrew him. He also said it when Buhari was chairman of PTF.

This is why I like Northerners. They do not mind forgetting the past and unite so that they can achieve a common goal. They want power to go back to the north. The northern agenda I can see. Well as for me I know for sure there will not be any change when GMB is elected as you all here think. So i better stick to GEJ just the way the northerners will support their own no matter what.

Lies. Gen. Buhari has no integrity. Major General Tunde Idiagbon has integrity and discipline. The story not true, how can major general Ibrahim Babangida and other install Gen. Buhari, then major general Ibrahim Babangida overthrow Gen. Buhari again. the Northers are deceiving us becos they want power by all cost. GEJ is doing great, Nigeria is in progress.

You and me may want a better Nigeria but some people in Nigeria doesn't think so because it is their right to rule we fool's. I really don't understand why all the selective acceptance of responsibility. It is either Buhari was the head of the coup and all the policies that came after, or he was installed by others in which case, all the policies were by others. I've said it several times before that he's living on the glory of Idiagbon.
