A middle- aged man whose wife filed for divorce in an Abuja Area Court Thursday appealed to the court to beg his wife to forgive him, adding that his wife’s friend seduced him and was the cause of their problem.
His wife, Adewumi Jonah had told the court that her marriage to Adebowale Sunday Jonah has broken down irretrievably and their home lacked peace and love.
“I am tired of my husband because he beats me with iron rod and other deadly weapons whenever we have problems,” Adewumi said.
She further accused her husband of not taking care of his family and packing out of their matrimonial home to an undisclosed apartment two years ago.
“He recently came to my shop to beat me and in the process went away with my bags containing N1,200,000 cash, my international passport, jewellery box, cheque booklets of Intercontinental, ECO and Fidelity banks as well as other valuables,” she lamented.
Mrs Jonah described her husband as a diabolical person, who has threatened to kill her, adding that he took their last child, who is five year-old to an unknown place so that she can not have access to the child.
Responding to the allegation, Adebowale Sunday Jonah blamed all the problems on his wife’s friend, saying that she charmed and seduced him.
“I am pleading with my wife to forgive me for everything that I might have caused her because I just realised my mistake when my wife’s friend confessed all the atrocities she caused in our home because she loved me,” he added.
Adebowale disclosed that his wife’s friend told him she was no longer interested in him and promised to travel out of the country so that he can make peace with his wife as well as other family members.
He told the judge that his relations were aware of the problem and had come to court to beg his wife on his behalf in order to find a lasting solution to the problem.
“I am still very much in love with my wife and not ready to lose her,” he pleaded.
After listening to both parties, Judge Yahaya Hamza Gashua told Mrs Jonah to forgive her husband since he realised his mistake and promised to change.
The judge also warned the husband to make absolute peace with his wife and called on family members to do what they can to save the couple’s marriage.
“We are not always happy when couples want to separate, so I am pleading with both of you to go home and settle your differences,” the judge stated and adjourned the case to January 7, 2010 to her from both parties on their progress.

Yes the husband has committed great sin against the wife; but we must not overlook the fact that this case is a case of matrimony and its principles must be followed based on biblical injuctions. this is more so cos the offender having realised his mistake and the pain it has caused his home, have begged for fogiveness. d wife owe him an obligation to fogive him. remember once married! it is 4better, 4worst. True repentance requires true forgiveness no matter d gravity of the sin.
