A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device strapped on her body near a market in the northeastern Nigerian State of Borno, killing at least three people, police and civilian vigilante sources said on Saturday.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack that bore the hallmarks of Islamist militant group Boko Haram, which has conducted a six-year insurgency to carve out a caliphate in Nigeria’s northeast.

A vigilante source said four people were killed and seven injured when the explosive went off at a checkpoint, targeting the vigilantes at the entrance of the Ramirgo market.
Ishiaku Dawa, a resident who helped take victims to the hospital, said the blast damaged two patrol vehicles and that four bodies were sent to the hospital.

“Three persons including the suicide bomber died on the spot. Corpses and injured victims evacuated to General hospital,” Borno State Police Commissioner Aderemi Opadokun, who visited the scene, told Reuters in a text message.

Opadokun said the attack occurred on Saturday morning in Ramirgo Village and victims were taken to the general hospital in Askira/Uba town in Borno state about 250 km (160 miles) south of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state and the epicenter of the insurgency.

Military spokesman Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed the blast in a statement and said the suicide bomber had been on the way to attack the market.

Usman said the bomber was accosted by a civilian vigilante, but the bomb went off during interrogation, killing the suspect. The vigilante was injured and rushed to the hospital.
Separately, the air force said on Saturday it had conducted air strikes on Sambisa forest, one of Boko Haram’s strongholds.

Its a pity why some people still think that the killings by the boko haram is islamic motivated or supported by islam..ok tell me how many Christian are living in borno state, the majority of people living the are islamic people, and still yet the so called boko haram are still terrorizing the muslims there and killing innocent people.now how can a religion support the killing and tormenting of its people..BOKO HARAM are terrorist and they are not been supported by the islamic religion..just as some christian are criminals some are kidnappers, ritualist, and so on but that does not mean christianity supports those act..all sinners are going to be judge and penalize for all their sins.so please stop blaming the islamic religion for the harsh predicament of the nation..and please also know I'm not a muslim but a true Believer of our lord jesus christ.thankss

you might be right.
but if the northerners have thought this way earlier,
the case would've been different. initially, they thought the government were killing their children,
and were busy hiding the terrorist under their beds and mocking the Nigeria army that were sent after the terrorists.
they only realized these guys were terrorist when they finished killing the christians around and turn their guns and matchets on them.
but before then, it was already too late and the terrorist gained much grounds. though they are regretting their actions, but its somehow late now.
