The Cross Rivers state government has ordered the suspension of early morning devotions held in primary and secondary schools across the state. A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in the state, Anne Odey, stated that the decision to suspend the devotion came from security concerns raised by the state Commissioner of Police, Henry Fadairo.
She said the state police commission had suggested the suspension of the age long practice following the prevailing security concerns in the country. In a swift reaction, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the state released a statement rejecting the suspension of the early morning devotion by the state government. The statement which was signed by the chairman of CAN in the state, Archbishop Joseph Edra Ukpo, reads in part;
Quote
“Sequel to the letter from the Ministry of Education with reference No MOE/S132/VOL 1, by the Permanent Sectary of the Ministry of Education dated October 21, directing public and private primary/secondary schools across the state to suspend all assemblies (morning and afternoon) till further notice, the Christian Association of Nigeria , Cross River State chapter, hereby, says that such directive is totally unacceptable. This directive will negatively affect the moral upbringing of our children who are future leaders of this country”.

banning prayer is not a wise move towards security. rather it should be encouraged cos only by seeking the presence of God will all things (good) be possible and easy for us (students).

Cross River and Akwa Ibom are sold out to the PMB, they are now under the influence of the power that be. Did u not hear about the new commissioned road linking them to Abuja directly? Well that is what is all about. We wish to hear from Vatican City on this. What a shame. all northern states practice their religion in their schools - from Head Start to University. But they would go to east to dictate how to run our schools. Are we still free citizens of the country? Eroding Christianity and replacing it with u know what.

nigerians and religion. see hw people in this forum are reacting. there is difference b/w suspension and ban. it was suspended just for security reasons.this is why most people are not security conscious. if i may ask, don't u people pray before leaving ur various houses. this is for the interest of those students in particular and crossriverians in general.

can is just a political body, always protecting their intetest alone. hw many times have they written to government against the harsh policies that are detrimental to the poor masses. if something evil hapen to those children now the same can will blame security agencies, government and devil. sometimes we like to tempt god. haven help those who help themselves.

What has security got to do with the prayer the children are praying, I think the prayers are affecting the demonic activities of some powerful people in that state that's why they just want to give some flimsy excuse to ban it and the schools will be stupid to comply, CAN should carry on with the fight against such wicked policy directive designed to propagate evil.

If people are required to pray for their daily bread, pray without season, tell their God their problems, why would the police think morning or afternoon devotion is not needed in time of danger? When danger calls, when people feel threat, when the unimaginable happens, we all call on our creator to ameliorate the situation. Mr police commissioner, u and your cohorts have got this wrong, u reasoned from your anus. Leave the kinds alone to practice their faith.

My God. I'll pray for you in school.
If you curse me, I curse you back. If you threaten me, I come for you. NFNF
