Ilorin — A nursing mother and her eight-month-old baby in Ilorin, Kwara State, were shot to death by police bullet last Sunday.
In a swift reaction, the state police command has arrested the trigger-happy policemen fingered in the tragic shooting incident.
The deceased, Mrs. Titilayo Olatunde and her late baby were amongst the six passengers in a taxi cab, when the policemen opened fire on them along New Yidi Road, Ilorin, the state capital.
A competent source told Daily Champion that late Mrs Olatunde, her baby and taxi cab driver where hit by police's bullet about 6.30pm last Sunday.
The driver identified as Isiaka Rasaki was said to have failed to stop at a check-point mounted by the cops.
His taxicab's registration is XB 384 PTG.
Our source said four other passengers in the taxicab were not hit by the police's bullet.
He noted that late Mrs. Olatunde's baby died on the spot while the nursing mother died later at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hispital (UITH).
Rasaki who was hit at the rear is still receiving treatment at the UITH.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of Kwara State Police command, Mr. Daboh Ezekiel confirmed the incident he said the four policemen on patrol have been arrested for interrogation and they would be dealt with accordingly if they are found guilty.
He said the driver of the taxi was still responding to treatment and the police will investigate the issue and make public the outcome of their investigation.

These police pple need to be retrained oooooooo. Let them be using koboko or cane or anyother object on the sturborn drivers and others instead of guns, cos no one know who the bullet will catch. Often times the straight bullets usually meets the wrong person. Make police them dey use their sences small abeg.

our nigerian police think they are the law that they can do what ever they wish,and this is because they lack proper trainig and the way they are being choosen.and if you look at their back ground most of them are drop out,touts cultist.outside nigeria like europe they are very strict over chosing their force men so nigerian government should please eliminate these unwanted police men that kills people anyhow.

Its still the same problem at checkpoints, people don't stop and police are bribed cowboys. Years back one belgium friend of me get stopped at a checkpoint and ask for his passport to chease. He give his pp and was asked to pay, he pay at once 5000naira and the same instance he was stabbed in the chess as reply becos "oyibos pay more then this". That's why I always get armed escorts when i'm in naija that have the right docs for showing in advance when they drive in a car in front of me.
