Kanu Nwankwo is a big name when it comes to football, not only in the country but the world over. With his talent, he has dazzled many with the round leather game. But a fact known to many of his fans is that the Portsmouth player hardly gives out money; a fact that may have been butressed by a recent incident at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos last week.
It was alleged that Kanu was on his way back to London via Virgin Atlantic airlines but missed his flight.
Just as the plane was taxing off, chauffeur driven Kanu arrived at the boarding gate. Before he knew what was happening, the plane was off.
Eyewitnesses told Life and Beat that the footballer naturally became angry, and fans and security agents at the airport did not help matters as many of them mocked the footballer rather than sympathise with him.
One of them told Life and Beat that his tight fist might be responsible for his plight. ”He missed the flight because of his stinginess. He is known for coming to the airport late so that he will not have time to interact with his fans or ‘drop‘ for them. As you can see, because he is known for that, nobody is even feeling sorry for him that he has missed his flight,” the eyewitness said.
Sources told Life and Beat that because of his team‘s match with Manchester United the following day, Nwankwo had to do everything within his power to leave for London that night.
Life and Beat gathered that the footballer managed to fly back to London via British airways. Ironically, Kanu was benched for that match as Manchester United beat his team by five unreplied goals.
