In a recent statement, former president Jonathan said he handed over the best Nigerian government, and the largest economy in Africa to president Buhari. Read other things he said after the cut...

Quote
“I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World, with a GDP of $574 billion.

I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again.

I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.

In 2009, the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.

The former President stated that democracy will continue to grow in the African continent if leaders value the process of elections more than the product of the process.

Even in the 2015 general elections in my country, Nigeria, there was potential for major crisis if I was not a President duly elected by the will of the people.

The campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian vs Muslims and North vs South divide. Most World leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis.

Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.

That is where the leadership question comes into play. As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first.

How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties?

With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.

Indeed, we sail through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it.
My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body”.

There's no doubt crediting Jonathan for haven handed over power peacefully without confrontation or contest .The will of the people was respected as it was supposed to in every decent human society ,but the claim of largest economy was over exaggerated .Iweala who was overseeing the economy at the time is a bonafide insider at IMF ,which I believe was politically motivated or more less a political award to credit one of its own doing a great job .Rebasing the GDP was fraught as those figure does not reflect on the nation consumer price index and overall economy .How does a country sole dependent on one source of revenue be leading economy over a more diversified economy .Oh plz ,ya go do ya rebasing again and again .The economy then was solely dependent on oil and once oil market plummeted on global market the entire economy went into recession .My argument here is ,entire rebasing was a scam and a sham .Largest economy on paper reported from the few corrupt multi billionaire clan running the nation with stolen oil money .The economy was been greased and running with stolen money that was in circulation .And everybody was dancing azonto .Liars

Jonathan government inherited a buoyant foreign reserve and handed over a virtually depleted foreign reserve .He  handed over a virtually empty treasury compared to what he inherited from Obasanjo government and here we are boasting of largest economy my ass ! The country was running on deficit prior to the election ,entire nation was looted .Do maths ,how much is our domestic debt and how much was the government spending ,how are we spending ! When each men were stacking foreign currency in Billion and millions .What is the total net worth of Nigeria ,if one single man can divert 1 billion or a common chairman of local council  can be traced to have over 20 million or 1 million dollar in his account .Wheb we are buying a biullet proof bmw for 400,000 dollar ! Lord Hv mercer .Why wouidnt  the nation go broke when all these is stolen by some monkeys in human skin !

We don't care wat APC apologist say. U did ur best. We are waiting for wat d miracle and magician party are going to tell us their stewardship in 2019. Excerpt they rig up north as usual, Nigerians are wiser now. Personally I will prefer a small unknown party among those who contest last year to rule dis country and we will see great difference. Let those who have not stolen b4 cast d first stone to u Mr GEJ. I believe u die. I no send all those slaves who eat from d master crumbs here to come and say trash cus of hatred. Nonsense

nigeria was not any better during Jonathan admin. The nation was celebrating corruption during his government. Moreover, there was no building of the nation during his two terms rather it was the free for all corruption that makes it seem like there's economy robust ,while in reality there was no nation building in terms of economy diversification or looking forward to safeguard the future of the nation .Nigerians were jubilating  here and there over stolen money in circulation that was driving the economy .It actually makes it look like economy growth but there were basis for economy growth .Maybe we can assume it was corrupt oil money throwing here and there .Wasting the future of the nation
