Please guys, you don't switch the gas before striking the match, its done the other way plus its safer.

when you strike your match, you keep it close to the tip of the gas outlet on the burner and switch the gas on afterwards.

it is worthy to identify any gas leak before using your cylinder, you sure would perceive it if there's any.
most times we turn the gas off without knowing its still on, as a very minute amount of gas still escapes through the burner and could envelope the kitchen and lead to a fire hazard at the instance of any spark.
please lets be safety conscious.
