The Nigerian Army on Sunday said its troops have rescued about 5,000 persons held hostage by Boko Haram terrorists in parts of Borno.
The acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement that eight suspected Boko Haram insurgents were killed during clearance operations conducted by troops of 21 Brigade.
He said the incident occurred in Zangebe, Maiwa, Algaiti and Mainari villages in Mafa Local Government Area of the state.
He said troops of 7 Division Garrison Rapid Deployment Force also conducted clearance operations in several villages across Borno on Saturday to rid the areas of the insurgents.
Usman said though a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force was killed in the operation and one soldier was wounded, the spirit remained high among troops as they continued with the operations.
"The remains of the heroic Civilian JTF and the wounded soldier and his police counterpart have since been evacuated to Maiduguri. While we commiserate with the families of the departed Civilian JTF, we wish to state that the wounded are in stable condition and responding to treatment.
"In a related development, troops of 192 Battalion, 26 Task Force Brigade and some vigilantes also embarked on fighting patrol along Kusarha-Zalidava general area today.
"The patrol team encountered some elements of Boko Haram around Zalidava-Weige villages in which they killed 2 Boko Haram terrorists and recovered 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with registration number FN 132125, a belt of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition containing 42 rounds. Sadly, one of the vigilantes sustained an injury on his eye," Usman added.
I have been reporting for several years now and I am very interested in visual news reportage with strong inclusion of photos and video multimedia.

So the chibok girls have been rescued then. There's no way to rescue 5000 people without the chibok girls in that number. And they only only managed to kill 6 boko haram member? What happened to the rest? I'd imagine it would take more than 1000 boko haram members to hold 5000 people hostage. You guys should tell us the truth!
