Manchester United VS West Ham
Sunday (27/11/2016)
17:30 (WAT)

Manchester United entertain West Ham on Sunday following the Red Devils’ reinvigorating win against Feyenoord in the Europa League.

United’s 4-0 win was the largest of Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford so far but it was the performance as much as the result that will inspire supporters.

Slaven Bilic’s side come into the game after a demoralising 3-2 defeat to Tottenham last week and the Hammers are hovering above the relegation zone before their trip to the Theatre of Dreams.

Both sides are in desperate need of the win and, with Old Trafford’s game the first of two clashes between the sides in four days, expect fireworks…
It’s a big game for… Wayne Rooney.

The 31-year-old’s struggled for form so far this term and has only started one Premier League match since being dropped in late September.

However, Rooney’s started in two out of United’s last three matches and he showed against Swansea and Feyenoord that he’s close to recapturing his form.

The England captain came in for huge criticism over a drinking controversy during the international break but he blasted his critics after an emphatic performance in the Europa League.

Rooney scored one and assisted another against Feyenoord and, though he’s not guaranteed to start against West Ham, he would be desperately unlucky not to feature.
Don’t bet against him continuing his revival.

Likely line-ups

Mourinho could keep the same back five that played on Thursday for Sunday’s game, meaning Marcos Rojo will have to settle for a place on the bench.

In midfield, Michael Carrick is unlikely to be tasked with a third game in eight days and Ander Herrera is expected to be brought back in.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan starred against Feyenoord but his absence in the league is set to continue with Marcus Rashford likely to get a place on the wing.

Diafra Sakho made his first appearance of the season against Spurs on Saturday but he’s likely to drop back out now that Mark Noble is back following his suspension.

Bilic has been using a back three with wing-backs in recent weeks and he’s expected to continue with that system at Old Trafford – with Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio tucking in.
Winston Reid misses the game due to suspension, meaning James Collins is likely to come in.

If you memorise one stat, make it this…

Manchester United have lost just two of their last 23 league games against West Ham at Old Trafford, winning 20 and drawing just once.

It was only last season but Dimitri Payet’s free-kick at Old Trafford will live long in the memory for West Ham fans.

The Frenchman curled in a beautiful effort past David De Gea from all of 35 yards at the Theatre of Dreams and he looked to have put the Hammers into the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, Anthony Martial struck late on to take the tie to a replay, where Louis van Gaal’s men came out on top in a 2-1 win.

The Red Devils would go on to lift the FA Cup.
