A group, the Council of Concerned Youths of Nigeria (CCYN) has issued a one month ultimatum to Ondo State government to send an anti-grazing bill to the state Assembly.
The group threatened to embark on massive protest by blocking the ever busy Lagos /Ore express way if the government did not meet the ultimatum.
The group in a statement by its president, Pastor Olumide Akinrinola hinged its ultimatum on the increasing trends of herdmens killings in the state, especially in the southern senatorial district.
“The state government should prepare a bill to be sent to the state House of Assembly for consideration against the indiscriminate grazing of cattle on our farmland to curtail this widespread evil by the herdsmen in Ondo State.”
The statement said the herdsmen attacks are now frequent such that people are afraid to go to their farms while those bold to go, do so in groups.
The group also called on the government to immediately fish out the herdsmen responsible for the killings and recent rape of a grandmother, Victoria Akinseye in Ore.
“We will embark on a mega protest on Lagos Benin express way in Ore and paralyse vehicular activities on that road.”
“We will ensure no vehicle coming from the east, south south or from Lagos or those going to Akure will be allowed to drive through if the state government does nothing after the expiration of one month notice counting from now,”
Akinrinola said.
In his reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Mr Olusegun Ajiboye said government is constantly meeting with all the security agencies in the state to find lasting solutions to the problem.
Ajiboye added that government is also holding series of meetings with stakeholders to find a peaceful way of solving the problem without unnecessarily heating up the polity.
“Very soon, we will begin to see the result of the stakeholders meeting,” Ajiboye said.
