Yesterday, the Consul General of United States to Nigeria, F.John. Bray who is in Bayelsa state on a tour along with his team – paid a working visit to the steam ship used by the British Government in the 1880’s. The steam ship which is located in Akassa, southern part of Bayelsa State….
The steam ship was used to convey people and goods from one place to another before the existence of trains, cars, trucks and airplanes existed.
River travel was often slow because speed of travel depended on the river current and manpower. That all changed with the introduction of steam- powered boats in the late 1700s and early 1800s.
