MOROCCO
Morocco found it hard work against Namibia and had to rely on a late own-goal to claim victory in their opening game of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as they narrowly avoided what would have been an upset.
Morocco were the best team throughout but failed to make their possession and chances count with nerves potentially getting to them but they will have to be better against Ivory Coast with Sofiane Boufal a potential introduction to the starting XI.
IVORY COAST
Ivory Coast edged a competitive clash with South Africa as they sealed a 1-0 win but it was their defensive shape that will have impressed the most after they kept the South Africans at bay.
They allowed South Africa to have more of the ball but proved difficult to break down and only allowed them to have two shots on goal with neither of those testing the ‘keeper to demonstrate a good defensive solidity.
Jonathan Kodjia’s strike in the second half was the difference between the two teams and that should be enough to see him retain his place in the side but Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha will be hoping to start this game after coming off the bench in the first game.
THE PREDICTION
Both Morocco and Ivory Coast were narrow victors in their opening games but know that this is the big clash of Group D. The winner of this will be a big favourite to top the group and progress to the knockout stages in a strong position with this set to be a very tactical affair. Morocco are likely to see more of the ball and take the game to Ivory Coast who will look to counter but both could end up cancelling each other out if they fail to take their chances with a draw on the cards.
