The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria's chapter of the Sports Council advised Victor Lapang, the new Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, to develop the mass sport in that state. Thaddeus Yelmen and Agabus Pwanagba, respectively president and secretary of the association in this state, gave this advice in a congratulatory message to Lapang on Tuesday to Jos.

NAN reports that Governor Simon Lalong of the Plateau inaugurated Monday Lapang and 22 others as commissioners to serve as members of his cabinet. NAN also reported that Lapang held the same position during Lalong's first term.

SWAN said Lapang's return to the Ministry of Sports should be a new era for the development of sports in the state, asking him to leverage his rich experience. He added that the development of mass sports would go a long way towards addressing the threat of youth retention and other social vices in society.

"The SWAN Regional Chapter wishes to congratulate Mr. Victor Lapang on his appointment as Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development. "Your appointment as Youth and Sports Commissioner, and your second coming should open the door to dynamism, resourcefulness and focused leadership.

"SWAN thinks that the Plateau deserves more than it receives from sport given the many natural talents in virtually every field. "We, therefore, advise you to give priority to mass sports because they will allow young people to remain less active and other social vices," the statement said.

The association invited the commissioner to develop other sports and not focus solely on the development of football. He advised the commissioner to work hard and convince the government to improve the ministry's allocation, adding that sport has the potential to grow the state's economy.

"We are ready to help you apply for an increase in the allocation to the ministry by engaging the relevant government agencies at the executive and legislative levels.

"We are ready to work with any progressive ideas you bring to the table in addition to fulfilling our responsibilities as a watchdog of the sports sector, through constructive engagement," he said.

Similarly, following the ousting of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Super Falcons by Ivory Coast, a former president of the Association of Sports Writers of Nigeria (SWAN), Fred Edoreh described the team as static. Edoreh made the statement in an interview with the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) as he envisioned the Falcon's shock output after the 2020 Olympics.

NAN reports that the Superfalkes drew 1-1 with their Ivorian counterparts on Monday night at Agege Township Stadium. The match began with Ivorians taking Kapho Zole Nina's first-gas mark in the 12th minute, while captain Falken Asisat Oshoala equalized in the 34th minute.

However, the Ivorians, with a perfect game plan, thwarted the Hawks' efforts to score a winning goal and finished the match 1-0, automatically hitting the Hawks on the away goals rule https://casino.netbet.ng/.

It is recalled that the defending African champions had already played a scoreless draw against Ivory Coast in Abidjan. This defeat made the eleventh time the Olympic Games fail, three times in a row, in 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016 and 20118, London 2010, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Edoreh called the loss "pitiful", which challenges the credentials of the team led by Christopher Danjuma. "Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for the Olympics for the third year in a row, they missed London 2010, Rio 2016 and now Tokyo 2020.

"The defeat has clearly shown that, if the Hawks are recognized as champions of Africa, they are making no progress." This is an indication that the team is too relaxed, as the winner of Africa, not to participate in three Olympics in a row, is a shame. The team needs to improve, "he said.
