A school teacher has allegedly raped a 12-year-old student in JSS1 in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue state.
Police confirmed the arrest of the teacher, Mr Terseer Maikyo after he alleged raped a 12-year-old student. in a press statement on Friday, signed by the Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sewuese Anene.
The statement stated that Maikyo was arrested on Oct. 8, and would soon be charged to court.
Recall that last month, reports were made that a teacher had allegedly raped and impregnated a 12-year-old student in Namtari, Adamawa state. The Nigerian Union of Teachers chairman in Adamawa state, Comrade Nathan however claimed that the student of a government secondary school was not raped by the primary school teacher. He insisted that the relationship was mutual.
“One cannot call a mutual relationship between a schoolgirl and her teacher who are mutually in love a rape case”, the NUT chairman said.
He added that the fact that the girl was “carrying a six-month pregnancy, (was) an indication that a long-term relationship had existed between the teacher and the schoolgirl.”
The NUT chairman asked, “At what point did the rape take place, was it six months ago, or now that it was discovered the schoolgirl is carrying a six-month pregnancy?”
