The Kebbi State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has remitted N2.1 billion to the National Hajj Commission as fares for 5,700 intending pilgrims this year. The Chairman of the agency, Usman Suru, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, in Birnin Kebbi, on Monday.
He also said that N400 million was released to the agency to enable it to secure convenient accommodation close to the Holy Mosque in Mecca for the pilgrims, and added that pregnant pilgrims would not be allowed to travel for the religious exercise. “Intending female pilgrims must undergo pregnancy test in a reputable hospital,” he said, adding that the policy was introduced to reduce cases of delivery and unnecessary ailments among pilgrims.
Mr Suru said the agency would also start a ``train the trainer’’ programme on how to overcome the rigours of transport shuttle in Mecca. “This would reduced accidents and ensure safety as part of the welfare arrangement of our pilgrims,’’ he said. The training, according to him, will hold in Yauri, Zuru, Argungu and Birnin Kebbi Zones of the state. “All intending pilgrims must participate in the training or forfeit the chance to perform the religious activity,” he said.
