A 13-year-old SS1 student has allegedly committed suicide after being accused of segxwal assault in school. The student simply identified as Juwon, a student of Foldemi Private School located at Ola Farm area of Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos, was suspended from school after he was accused of touching the butt of a female classmate, named Chinaza.
It was reported that when Juwon got home, his parents were not at home, loneliness and emotional trauma a perfect combo for depression. Juwon allegedly got a bottle of a sniper and drank it. Unfortunately, it was not long before his parents returned home, his unconscious body was taken to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Reasonably, Juwon’s death sparked a lot of outrage in the community as angry youths and some of the classmates stormed Chinaza’s house accusing her of being the cause of Juwon’s death. The teenage girl escaped lynching through the help of her parents who quickly took her out of the house into a place of hiding where she has been kept now for a while.
Also, the school has been under lockdown until the situation becomes calm to avoid reprisal attacks from irate youths within the community.
The Lagos State Police Command is out on investigation to circumstances that could have led the death of Juwon after he allegedly took his own life.
It is alarming and worrisome the rate at which people commit suicide these days. There are so many people out there who are not strong emotionally, hence, we must know how well to treat people and speak to them even when they are wrong. Just like a week, the news was published about a young man that dived into the river from the third mainland bridge in Lagos Island. Only God knows what had happened to him prior to the time he resorted to taking his own life.
Needless to say that Juwon’s body has been returned to mother earth immediately he was confirmed dead by the doctors.
