A gun lover shot off his p.e.n.i.s with his own weapon while tucking it into his waistband.
Local paper The Star reports he had accidentally shot himself while attempting to return the legal gun to the waistband off his trousers on Tuesday.
The man had to undergo emergency surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital.
Superintendent Dwayne Wellington, commanding officer for Portland, told The Star that he remains in the hospital.
He said: “I am aware that it happened. There's no criminal investigation.
"And in proximity to those structures would be the scrotum as well, where you can damage the testicles."
And he went on: “It can happen to anyone. It happens to women as well, but more men than women, because more men carry guns. It is devastating and psychologically debilitating. We should encourage persons to practise using holsters.
“When you damage your 'package', it can have a vicious cycle of scarring after the injury, and you have to be operating on the package to get it back to a normal calibre.”
