Police detectives have arrested the Manager, of Calvary Hotel, Iree, in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State over Monday’s mysterious deaths of two persons in the hotel’s swimming pool. Also arrested with the manager were a lady and two other men, who were said to have gone to the hotel in company with the two dead persons to relax on the fateful day.
The two deceased persons, Sulaiman Abiodun, a Higher National Diploma (HND) student of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and another, simply identified as Afeez were said to have drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel around 10.30p.m on the fateful day. Daily Sun gathered that the five young men, among whom was the younger brother to a serving Senator in the state, had gone to the hotel, situated along the polytechnic road to relax.
Tragedy, however, struck around 10 p.m when three of the fun-seeking youths decided to swim in the hotel pool. Two of them, who were believed to have become drunk got drowned in the swimming pool. When Daily Sun visited the town yesterday, it was discovered that the hotel had been locked up. An eyewitness in the area, who would not want to be mentioned, confided in Daily Sun that one of the three men actually alerted the management of the hotel to the fact that two of his colleagues were already drowned.
A check at the state CID yesterday revealed that four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident and a full scale investigation have commenced on the incident. The Officer-in-charge of SCID, Mr. Ebenezer Adeyemi, told Daily Sun that he could not speak on the matter as at the time of visiting his office as he had just received the case file on the incident from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Iragbiji Police Divisional headquarters, who oversees the area.
The owner of the hotel, who is also the State Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Yinka Adeojo, was also sighted at the SCID building yesterday around 2.30p.m. He was accompanied by one of his aides. Adeojo had told Daily Sun on Tuesday night that Calvary Hotel, was not solely owned by him but a limited liability company. He said what happened at the hotel was unfortunate but ‘one of those things’.He alleged that the two dead men were drunk.
Daily Sun, however, gathered yesterday that police detectives were looking beyond ‘mere misadventure theory’for the deceased.
