Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, on Friday, raised alarm about the presence of “personal armies” and warned that  the state would wield its big stick against any politician linked with this act.

He told leaders and elders of local government areas in the state to dismantle all “army groups” as allegedly being prepared by some politicians for 2011 elections.

The warning came in the wake of a rising tension in Udu Local Government Area of the state where the people had alleged that some elements had constituted for themselves, “militias” as a build-up for 2011 general elections.

Governor Uduaghan urged sponsors of such groups to desist from the act of using “boys” to harass and intimidate law-abiding citizens of the state or be prepared to face the wrath of the law, adding that he had directed security chiefs in the state to be on alert.

The governor, who spoke during the state security meeting at Government House, Annex, Warri, also directed security agencies to urgently take up the matter and summon all aspirants in the troubled areas with a view of nipping the growing threat in the locality.
