On the surface, Sheila and Tomiwa cut across as a near perfect couple. The envy of their friends, only the two of them know that if nothing is done, their 18-month old relationship might just go the way of their previous relationships.

According to Sheila, Tomiwa is the best thing to have happened to her in her nearly three decades on earth, but he possesses some traits that do not align with her personality. ”He‘s loud and messy, while I am a clean freak. Most times, I dread going to his house and abhor inviting him over to mine because we end up having silly arguments about this and that, mostly pertaining to orderliness. He loves to leave things as little as his handkerchief lying around carelessly and he sees nothing wrong with it, despite the fact that I have complained about it on many occasions. In recent times, our little arguments over such small matters almost always snowball into a huge fight that results in us keeping malice for several days.”

”Whoever created the saying that opposites attract did not do a good job because he seemed to have forgotten to add that opposites usually encounter the greatest problems,” says Nuru. ”My fiancée is fast becoming a pain in the neck. When I was chasing her, I did not envisage that she would pose this much problem. I thought we would carry on like regular couples, but the happiness I so desire is fast eluding us because she does not like to go out. While I love my environment and like to explore, she is content with staying indoors. To make matters worse, anytime I go out without her in tow, she always complains that I stay out too late; but when I urge her to come along, she won‘t.”

Benita and Ugo have dated for a year so far, but things aren‘t going so smoothly. The latter insists Bennie, as he likes to address her, is an idler.

”I‘m not kidding. She leaves her dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, while Coke cans line up on her home office desk. They could be there for a week or more. Her car is such a mess; I can‘t even ride in it. I can‘t stand it. I didn‘t know how clean I was until I met her. She dismisses my complaints with the wave of the hand and says I feel so about her because I have had my own apartment for almost 12 years and have got used to having things my way. We fight all the time about this - I mean every single day. She never picks up after herself. There‘s literally a trail of destruction behind her. I‘ve tried not to focus on it, but I really don‘t want to become her personal cleaning service - or live in filth. I hate to say it, but I don‘t know if I can live like this ultimately.”

Benita does not share his opinion. ”Ugo thinks he‘s Mr. Perfect. Well, he may be Mr. Clean Freak, but that doesn‘t make him an angel to live with. He nags all the time and that is unnerving. I thought those were girl qualities. All he does is fuss. I can‘t get up to go to the bathroom that he doesn‘t fuss about me not taking my glass to the kitchen first, even when I‘m still using it! I admit I‘m not Miss Tidy, but I do laundry once a week, and so what if the dishes pile up for a few days? I‘m working round the clock all week and I‘m exhausted. I don‘t enjoy being yelled at all the time. I never thought this would be what would break us up.”

”Our relationship would be so much better if only she were more like me,” admits Taiye. Continuing, he says, ”The world would be a much better place to live in if only Tolu and I had similar interests. She wants to drive around town all the time, visiting friends, while I just want to stay home and watch television. She says I am anti-social but I think I am only being laid back, which suits me. I run a busy schedule from Monday to Friday; so, it is only okay that I spend more time indoors during the week.”
