Corps members recruited for the 2011 elections are to enjoy a special insurance cover in addition to their election duty allowances.

Concerns over rising threat to security and the need to insulate corps members from undue political influence as well as guarantee their safety gave rise to the decision.

Our correspondent gathered in Abuja on Sunday that work on details of the package had reached an advanced stage.

It was also gathered that insurance firms from across the country were making overtures to the Independent National Electoral Commission in order to benefit.

The cost implication was still being kept under wraps by the INEC management and the National Youth Service Corps.

The issue of security for electoral staff was also being given attention according to INEC insiders.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, confirmed the development.
