Police in LA have arrested a man who they think could be linked to more than 30 burglaries where the suspect appeared to be dressed up as a white man. Rockim Prowell was detained on 2 May during a traffic stop by Beverly Hills police officers after a string of burglaries were reported in the area. Officers managed to link two of the previous crimes together through surveillance footage showing the same vehicle.
Images of surveillance videos released by authorities show a suspect seen with the mask and wearing glasses. Fox News reports that police noticed from security footage that the suspect always had his mouth open - this was how they realised he was actually wearing a mask. According to CBS, the information was put out by the Los Angeles Police Department in a tweet, which has since been deleted. It asked if anyone had surveillance footage of the masked burglar.
The news site reports that the department wrote: "It was odd this burglar's mouth was always open when seen on surveillance video. "When he was caught breaking into another home we discovered why."When Prowell was arrested, a search of the car was conducted, in which a face mask and other times were found, appearing to connect him to residential burglaries in which flat screen televisions were stolen.
Prowell, 30, from Inglewood, California, was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of grand theft and one count of vandalism. A further search warrant was conducted by police at Prowell's home, which resulted in other stolen items being recovered for residents. According to the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Division, Prowell has so far been connected to seven burglaries in the area. He has been released from police custody and is set to appear in court on 25 May.
