Mumbai Indians (MI) debuted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 and participated every season. They are two-time defending champions of the IPL now.
The pre-2013 period was a poor one for the Mumbai Indians. However, MI has become confident and won five championships in the last eight years. They may become the first IPL team to have a hat-trick of title wins in 2021. The leadership of Rohit Sharma may play its role in future success as always.

Mumbai Indians dominance over opponents in the IPL
Most of the contesters find it challenging to beat MI in the IPL. There is only an example of the former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith with 75% wins against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. No other captain can repeat Smith’s success when it comes to defeating MI.
We will look through the four leaders of the IPL teams who played at least 2 matches with Mumbai Indians and always were unsuccessful.

#1 Shane Watson - 3 matches, 3 defeats
The former all-rounder from Australia, Shane Watson, became a crucial figure in Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2008 to 2015. He helped his team receive a champion title in the inaugural season and spent a few seasons in the role of RR captain.
Watson led Rajasthan Royals in three matches versus MI in the IPL 2014 and 2015. However, the franchise from Jaipur couldn’t save its decent head-to-head record against Mumbai Indians and lost all the matches against the team under Watson’s captaincy. The most dramatic moment was when Corey Anderson knocked RR out of the tournament with his remarkable innings in the league phase of IPL 2014.

#2 Brendon McCullum - 2 matches, 2 defeats
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are fierce rivals of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Therefore, it is no wonder that former KKR captain Brandon McCullum joined the list.
Mumbai Indians managed to win against Knight Riders in both league meetings in the second edition of the IPL. McCullum was a skipper for KKR in that season. However, MI failed to qualify for the semi-finals despite all their wins this season.

#3 Eoin Morgan - 2 matches, 2 defeats
The left-handed batsman debuted in the IPL as a captain only last year in the United Arab Emirates. Surprisingly, he is the second Knight Riders skipper to join the list.
Morgan has already lost two matches for KKR against Mumbai Indians. Nevertheless, there is still a possibility to get the first win against MI in the upcoming game on September 23.

#4 Cameron White - 2 matches, 2 defeats
The former Australian all-rounder captained both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers in the matches against the Mumbai Indians in IPL.
Unfortunately, Deccan Chargers lost to MI by five wickets in a scoreless match at Wankhede Stadium in 2012. Mumbai Indians also won Sunrisers Hyderabad with Kieron Pollard’s run-chase with a 27-ball 66 and gaining 184-run at the exact location in the following season.
