Elozonam is a man of many talents. Many fans of Big Brother Naija will agree that he’s one of the most brilliant housemates in the show’s history.
As soon as he was out of the house, he knew he had one thing to do – grow. In an interview with Legit, he said that “I already know what I want to do. It’s the same thing I’ve been doing, but I wanna grow. I want to explore. I want to do things a little differently. It’s basically the same trajectory. Just keep doing things differently. Keep entertaining – music, movies, short films, and dance.”
In the same vein, he also told Olorisupergal his main goal was to continue entertaining his fans. “I’m going to be working on a new EP. I have one out already. It came in March on all streaming platforms – Elozonam: a weird mix of trumpets and Hi-Hats, you’ll like it. So that’s basically what it is. I’m going to be doing everything creative – music videos, especially my music videos. Just basically entertaining people.”
The 8-track EP, which was self-produced and engineered, is Elozonam’s debut project and only one to date. The EP, released on March 12, 2019, has only 1,424 plays on Audiomack. The video for the lead single, The Garri Song, has 19,859 views on YouTube. On October 26, 2019, after returning from the house, he released Sweet Dodo featuring Ditweni and LSMK. On January 16, 2021, Elozonam announced that he had new music coming soon and was working on his EP.
In an interview with Showmax, he explains why he doesn’t put out music much or push it as hard as he does his other craft. “I don’t want to make music professionally to the extent that it becomes work. For me, making music is something I enjoy because it’s fun. I’m not trying to be Nigerian or create my music to fit certain rules. I’m just trying to express myself; however, it comes. But as soon as it becomes a job or career, you have to be very mindful of certain things, like your target audience, and I don’t want to be confined to any type of box.”
While Elo’s music career has failed to take off, the all-round creative has found much success in other artistic fields. Since his time in the house, Elo has taken over TV, series, ads, films and even cinematic blockbusters.
He tells Showmax about the advertising work he’s been doing. “After I left my 9-5, I was doing basically the same thing – which was creating radio ads and TV commercials. Only this time, I was doing it for myself. I’m still doing it because I like advertising. It’s fun work, and now I’m just trying to do more with the opportunity I’ve been given.”
When he joined the cast of E.V.E on January 20, 2020, for the second season as Harris Jr, he explained his relationship with theatre. “Let me put it this way: I like to direct the things I act in. I write scripts but not very often. I can write scripts, but to be honest, that’s not my strength. Ideation is my strength, and I can get a scriptwriter to script it out because I don’t believe in doing everything myself. I like to act. It’s fun work, but I also like to have some creative control over what I do, which is directing and then post-production. So I’d say acting, top priority, before directing and post-production.”
Since E.V.E, he has taken on a significant role as Inspector Hanson Okechukwu Vincent on Inspector K, started a talk web series The Cliffhanger, and appeared on Housejob and The Castigator. He has taken on voiceover jobs and created ads for brands like Blackup Paris, Stanbic IBTC, MTN, Star Radler, DStv, Smile Networks, Asus, Mitsubishi, and more. He has also hosted several events and shows like The Jollof Party and Street Foodz Naija.
He also played the role of Inspector Stanley in The Sanitation Day movie that premiered on January 29 across cinemas nationwide. His new film, Charge and Bail, will premiere in cinemas in October 2021. He’s currently working on his third cinematic role – Bad Boys and Bridesmaids, where he plays the role of TK. On June 9, 2021, he was nominated in the Trend Upp Awards category for ‘Force of Creative Art’.
Big Brother Naija has helped Elozonam exponentially improve his career. According to Plaqad’s 2019 BBNaija report, 84% of the respondents believed that the show provides an excellent platform for contestants to succeed in their pursuits, evidenced by the great strides they are making after they left the Big Brother house.
Elo talks about BBNaija’s effect on his career in the documentary. “Big Brother Naija is never a coincidence. It’s too big of a deal for it to be a coincidence. You can’t just do it based on vibes. What I wanted from Big Brother, I’ve gotten it.”
Elozonam shares more of his experiences in the new BBNaija documentary, BBNaija: The Fame, The Fans, The Frenzy airing on Saturday, November 6, 2021, on Africa Magic, Hip TV, and across all of Netng’s social media channels.
