UI Reportedly Bars Graduate Without 1st Class Degree From Physical Convocation Ceremony

The University of Ibadan (UI) yesterday informed the public that it has barred graduands of the Institution without first class honours from attending the 2021 convocation ceremonies physically. The institution stated this in a notice issued by the university where it asked those without first class to join the convocation ceremonies online.

According to the notice, the decision was taken to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), especially the Delta variant. At the convocation which would hold between November 15 and 17, the university said: “It said only the award winners that would be allowed access into the convocation hall, while asking parents and visitors to stay away. “Attendance at the International Conference Centre is open to First Class Honours graduands and recipients of prizes and awards only.

“Parents and visitors are not allowed into the campus, neither will there be any form of party or social gathering during the period. “All graduands are to comply with COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of face masks, physical distancing and use of hand sanitiser.”
