The Director-General of the organisation, Senator Ben Obi, told newsmen in Abuja that the governor was not in a position to comment on the waiver granted him by the National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party to contest the party’s presidential primaries.
Akpabio had said on Sunday in Abuja on Sunday that the PDP might set a screening committee to look into the waiver granted him by the PDP NWC.
But Obi said Akpabio should not be taken seriously. He said it was unfortunate that rather than face the numerous challenges in his state, Akpabio had chosen to dabble into an issue that did not concern him.
Obi said, “Akpabio is not the chairman of the PDP. When he is appointed the spokesperson of the PDP, then we will take him seriously.
“For a man to say that somebody who fought for the enthronement of democracy, who stood against tenure elongation, is not marketable, then such comment is unfortunate.”
Obi described Abubakar as the best choice for the presidency.
He said, “On record, he is the most maliciously investigated political leader in history alive today; yet his integrity and honour remain unscathed.”
