The popular Alaba International Market, Lagos on Thursday, was shut out to buyers and sellers that don’t have Permanent Voters Card (PVC). The management ordered that traders and customers who do not have PVCs should not be allowed into the market. Alaba, which is usually busy was basically empty on Thursday as people who did not have their voters card were barred from entering and the gate was locked to ensure no one flouts the directive.
A video circulating on social media showed some men inside the gate checking if people have their cards before they are allowed inside the market. Similarly, last year, a similar thing happened when all the shops were locked to enable to register and collect the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
