An American TikTokker has fallen to his death after stumbling off a 70ft coastal cliff in Puerto Rico. The incident happened while he was shooting videos to upload to his account. Indiana man Edgar Garay's submerged body was located on Monday by Puerto Rico Emergency Bureau divers after he fell off the steep coastal cliff near a lighthouse in Cabo Rojo the previous day, the US Coast Guard said. The 27-year-old was on a day trip to the southwestern coast and was last seen alive around 5:37 p.m. near the cliff edge, the US Coast Guard said.
Coast Guard watch standers in Sector San Juan received a call at 6:50 p.m. from a 911 emergency operator who reported the incident, according to US Coast Guard News. A witness at the scene later relayed to watch standers that they saw Garay stumble towards the cliff edge, it said. The TikTokker's brother Carlos Garay told WTHR that he was on the cliff with his cousin who repeatedly told him not to get too close to the edge while filming.
'My brother has a TikTok account that he loved to upload videos to,' Carlos reportedly said. 'Unfortunately, that was what he was trying to do when he was closer to the edge than he should have been.'
Carlos told the news station that Edgar was found in an underwater cave with huge head injuries from the accident. 'We express our most heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Edgar Garay and pray they find closure and strength during this most difficult time,' said Coast Guard Capt. José E. Díaz in a statement.
'We appreciate the efforts of all the Coast Guard, Puerto Rico Police and partner agency emergency responders, especially the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau dive unit that was able to locate Mr. Garay's body in such a highly inaccessible and challenging environment,' Díaz added.
