Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff, has rejected allegations of soldiers killing children in the fight against terrorism in North-East Nigeria.

He dismissed a report by Reuters last December, which accused the Nigerian military of carrying out a secret programme to terminate the pregnancies of at least 10,000 women who were freed from Boko Haram terrorists.

Speaking at a Special Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations, Yahaya denied the report, saying that the Nigerian military operates according to rules and regulations that are guided by fundamental human rights. He also called for a further investigation into the Reuters report.
