Would you like your family to decide whoever you would love?

A friend told me that his family (mother) will find him a wife  when he's ready to get married. Although I disagreed but I respect his choice of how he want to live his life. On the other hand, this issue seem a global debate confronting people. When I was in Africa I thought it never exist anywhere else, but here in Europe is another different thing.My friend's girlfriend is disowned and banish by her family because she did not yield to their decision. Please can someone share his/her view about this.

with due respect to your families what would you do if you were in this shoe? Run away? stand by your decision and ignored? live without thinking about them?? and how would you confront it??? please share in details so that others will learn.
