137 convicts awaiting death at Kirikiri

Out of seven hundred 76 0 inmates in Kirikiri Maximum prisons, Lagos, 137 have been condemned to death. Another 101 convicted for various offences, while 522 are awaiting trial as at the weekend. Only 69 inmates in Kirikiri Medium prisons were said to have been convicted out of the 1,910, while 1,841 are still awaiting trial.

The number of inmates are 2,670. Two thousand, three hundred and sixty-three (2,363) inmates in both prisons are awaiting trial. Daily Sun visited both prisons during an event tagged: “Say no to crime,” which was held in the Kirikiri Female prisons, at the weekend. The event attracted dignitaries which included a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and musician, Onyeka Onwenu.
